2nd GRADE--"Day of the Dead"

The 2nd graders studied “El Dia de Los Muertos” or “The Day of the Dead.” This is one of the most important holidays in the Hispanic culture. This event takes place on November 1st and 2nd and honors friends and relatives who have died throughout the year. This is supposed to be a happy time to celebrate the good times you’ve had with those you love. Altars are set up in the house with favorite foods, candles, pictures, etc. to remember those who have passed away. The skeleton is a popular symbol associated with “The Day of the Dead” so the students created their own dancing skeleton. We also talked about what a pattern is and student had to create a pattern around their border using colors and shapes.

  3. It’s called a “Calaverita literaria” it’s a fun poem written to “la Cala a, lamuerte” that is coming to get you but with your clever writing and wits you out smart the “muerte” and after she does all her chasing you still get out alive… it’s the funnest way to teach kids about writing a poem
